5. The family name is Tijll (sometimes transcribed as Tÿll) or Tyll in the first Pratteln Church Book and Till in the second. It is Diel or Dill in the "Book of Record". The German pronunciation of all five variants is more or less like the English word "deal".

6. Two of the children died aboard ship, and Niclaus died 10 days after arriving in South Carolina (Giezendanner to Paravicini, April 23, 1737). Since ships from England generally arrived July - September, and his wife applied for land in her own name on October 13, 1736, I have assumed a death date of August 1736 for Niclaus.

7. I've found no direct evidence for the existance of Hans Jacob, Anna Maria, or Johannes in South Carolina. Hans Jacob, however, is the only male old enough to be the father of Nicholas, Conf. 1758, leaving Anna Maria and Johannes as the two children who died aboard ship.

8. The Dirr (Durr) family mentioned in the "Book of Record" is a different family from the Till (Tijll, Diel, Dill) family.

9. Everything we know about Fridli's birth and baptism comes from his petition for citizenship on 29 Jul 1621. At that time he stated he came from Schweterlen (location currently unknown) but had been born in Augst and baptized in Pratteln.

10. There is no baptism record for Hemma but he was born in 1624 and the Pratteln church records only begin in 1625. He is almost certainly the son of Fridli Till and Barbara Fretz.
